A hairband is a flexible hair accessory made of fabric and a stretchy part. It forms a closed circle that surrounds the entire head. 

The headband is an object with a rigid base that can be covered with fabric, beads, jewelry or any decorative element. This accessory is open and does not form a complete circle around the head.

The hairband and the headband have a rather similar purpose: they hold the hair in place and accessorize the hairstyle.

Each accessory has its advantages and disadvantages. The hairband can cover the ears, which is practical in winter to protect from the cold. Its flexible aspect will avoid any breakage during its use or its transport. On the other hand, a choice of headband that is too large or too small can be complicated to use. Indeed, the latter can hurt the head if it is too narrow and can slip on the hair if it is too wide. In addition, over time, the headband loses its elasticity and relaxes.
